Ps. 140:12. I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and justice for the poor.

At IPC’s Alternative Christmas Bazaar (ACB), we raised $1400.00 approx. for Pravaham sponsorships. These sponsorships provide funds for the Nursing Aide  program – girls from the rural, mostly dalit villages that surround Pravaham are given Alpha (Basic) training as well as vocational skills to become Nursing Aides. IPC’s ACB also supported a number of other missions and you can see them all here in these pictures!

But as for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more and more. Psalm 71:14.

This was a very eventful week for Pravaham!

First, we received the joyous news from the Tamil Nadu Open University. Our 1-year Health Assistant programme which leads to the vocational education Nursing Aide certificate is now recognized by the Tamil Nadu Open University; this means that Pravaham students will be eligible to apply for admission to the University’s 4-year B.S. Nursing program. Additionally, the University has approved the following new programs for Pravaham and we need God’s discernment and provision for these: 1) Pre-primary school teacher training, 2) Desktop publishing, and 3) Secretarial training.

Second, on Thursday, 28 August, the Pravaham community celebrated with its annual worship service in the chapel, the Graduation Ceremony of the 4th batch of the ‘Health Assistant’ Course and the Inauguration of the 5th batch of students.  Rev. Dr. Xavier Alphonse S.J. Director, Indian Centre for Research and Development of Community Education, Chennai, was the Chief Guest with Dr. M. Abel, Former Vice Chancellor, Krishnadevaraya University, Andhra Pradesh and Chairman, Pravaham Trust presided. Following the service and ceremonies, lunch was served.

For the last three days in the month of August, the Student Christian Movement of India (Chennai region chapter) had their retreat at Pravaham.
